PRACTICE: MULTI-DISCIPLINARY;

COMBINING AND EXPLORING DIFFERENT SKILLS AND DEVELOPING THEM INTO MY WORKING ART.
MEDIA USED: UNITY TECH, 360° FILM, PERFORMANCE, VIRTUAL REALITY, PAINTING, PHOTOGRAPHY AND CHOREOGRAPHY.

Working with Unity Technology Software and the Oculus Quest VR Headset, I started to develop Virtual Experiences, for webpages and VR Headsets. Using Unity Learn’s online resources and courses, I began to focus on improving my skills within the technical side of Unity and extended reality (XR) to further the creation of my project; Alla Prima – Winter. While continuing to use my Fine Art degree to create an open world contemporary experience. Until then I’ve been making other experiences which can all be viewed here; Unity Technology Page.

Previous Art Practice

My previous practice of 360° Film (2019 – 2021) I found my themes to be purposely boring; in doing so I made works that were more interesting than I expected and had control over. Turning on the camera and capturing all angles, you’ll always find something to look at. In that sense it’s no different to sitting on the bus, things happen. My approach is similar to that of structural film; in attempting to create these ideologies the experience allows the audience into what I consider this meditative state; This state of mind comes from a person’s willingness to experience the work long enough where they finally are taken in by their new surroundings. When relating practice to meditation, research at times goes into an analysis of patience. “In Zen they say; if something is boring after two minutes, try it for four, if still boring, then eight. Then sixteen. Then thirty-two. Eventually one discovers that it is not boring at all”. John Cage//How to Do Nothing//Jenny Odell//Pg. 95
